Jim Harrington

Since the first trip to India in 1987, his yoga practice has been influenced by the Iyengar and Ashtanga vinyasa styles, the more medical Synergy style as well as other mind/body disciplines of Tai Chi and Chi Kung. His philosophy on life and yoga are largely shaped by the seven years that he has spent in the orient.

Jim Harrington was the Senior Teacher at the Moksha Yoga studio in Cape Town. He has helped hundreds of people make yoga a part of their lives that they can take with them wherever they go. He continues to play a mentoring role to the New Teachers who have graduated from his courses.

He is an internationally recognized IYA (Yoga Alliance) Teacher Trainer, and conducts workshops and courses in Applied Anatomy and Physiology, Synergy Yoga style. He has diplomas in Remedial and Sports Therapies.

Tamsin Sheehy

Seeking a holistic form of body movement led Tamsin to her first yoga class. She found in yoga a life long practice.

Her first teachers training was completed with an Australian based yoga school, Yogarts in Bali and led to a further 2 year Bihar teachers training as well as courses in Lymphology and cleansing. After a 2 month trip to India to study Sivananda Yoga, Tamsin decided to settle down in Cape Town to share, teach and learn with the yoga community here.

As well as being an inspirational yoga teacher, Tamsin facilitates individual cleansing programmes and lymphology workshops.

Harriet Came

Harriet has been practising yoga seriously for the last 10 years. Predominantly Ashtanga yoga in London under the guidance of Liz Lark and Gingi Lee.

Since arriving in Cape Town 3 years ago, She started to practise with Tamsin and Jim, learning to deepen and vary her practise from the Ashtanga form and also significantly increasing her fulfilment from yoga.

During her first pregnancy in 2007 she continued to practise daily, working closely with Tamsin, and learnt to soften and adapt her practise.

“The committment I made to my yoga during pregnancy taught me an enormous amount about my body, about my practise and about myself.

Without a doubt it increased the enjoyment and ease of my pregnancy, the birth and my recovery from the birth. I also truly believe it has influenced the character and wellbeing of my son . Since becoming pregnant, I have developed a deep interest in pre natal yoga and how this combined with diet and exercise can influence a pregnancy and birth.”

Toni Westaway

Toni is a qualified yoga teacher, who has been practicing yoga seriously for the past 7 years.

She is committed to teaching yoga to children, specifically, because she believes that the amount of stress and pressure that our children are exposed to on a daily basis negatively affects their physical, mental and spiritual health. This can have lasting negative effects on their well-being and confidence.

One of the affirmations she teaches to the children is “Peace begins with me”.  This simple phrase helps our children recognize that they have the power to change the world: both internally and externally. Toni believes that giving human beings the tools to gain a strong body, respect and love for themselves, other people and the planet they live on from an early age will only have positive ripple effects in generations to come.

Toni feels both blessed and excited to be able to offer the YogaKids programme to your children.

Mariah Betts

Mariah Betts has been a student of yoga since 1998. As an athlete and competitive ski racer throughout life she found yoga as a way to gain more awareness of the body and focus the mind. She believes it is through feeling the physical body that we begin to sense the subtler, energetic parts of our being. By learning to chanel the energy available to us through the practice of yoga the impossible becomes possible.

After originally practicing Bikram and Ashtanga vinyasa Mariah completed her first 200 hr teacher training with Ana Forrest in 2004 and has since completed two 200 hr Maya Yoga Vinyasa Fusion trainings in the lineage of T. Krishnamacharya with Eddie Modestini and Nicki Doane. She is additionally a graduate of the Institute for Integrative Nutrition as a certified holistic health counselor accredited by the American Association of Drugless practitioners. A student at heart, she continues to practice and study with teachers where ever she finds herself in the world.

Mariah’s classes blend elements of strength, breath, precision and grace, with threads of music, fun and ancient, yet modern philosophy.  Her unique style has evolved from experience as a yogini, a coach, and lover of music and movement. She empowers students to find individual expression and from it, move deeper into their true essential Self.

Jo Feghale

Jo Feghale has been practising yoga since 2000 She has studied with many teachers in various schools of yoga and has completed many workshops over 2003-2009 while living in London. She completed her teacher training in 2009 with AfricaYoga.
She has been teaching Vinyasa flow yoga around Cape Town since 2009 while simultanously immersing herself in deepening her knowledge and skills by attending workshops and courses with local and international teachers. Having experienced many forms of yoga, many different teachers as well as a great variety of healers, she weaves into her teaching different elements of what resonates with her both from what she has learnt on her mat in her own body and

breath and from lessons learnt throughout her life.

Jo was drawn to yoga at a time where she needed healing in both the spiritual and physical sense, and is inspired to bring this into her teaching, having experenced that so many people are disconnected from themselves, she works to help them reconnect beginning with bringing awareness to the connection of body, mind and breath. Leading them to work through physical blockages to open themselves up being receptive to the energy, the life force that’s inside them.

Jo completed a psychology degree in 2002 and is facinated by the human condition, this also inspires her to encourage students to sometimes go a little deeper, breathe a little longer and let go a little more.

Her classes are vinyasa flow with attention to technique and breath woven with elements of fun and play.

I am always inspired to practise to connect to a deeper part of myself, to move the energy through my body, cleansing myself from the inside… to be open, free and conscious. To light up my Being.
